We build intricate solutions to streamline our internal workflows, enabling over 8,000 human agents to make informed decisions about how different actors use our products—ensuring compliance with laws and Stripe policies. Our work tackles high-impact challenges, such as enabling efficient decision making and action on preventing illegal transactions (e.g., fraud, drugs, weapons, and terrorism financing), and other risks in the financial landscape—all with the goal of resolving issues quickly and correctly for our merchants and their clients.</p> <p>We operate across multiple products, with a tech stack that includes Ruby, React, GraphQL, and MongoDB, alongside essential tools like GitHub, Logscale, and Grafana.</p> <h2>What you'll do</h2> <p>Beyond technical excellence, we prioritize continuous growth and collaboration.</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge sharing sessions to expand your expertise</li> <li>Dedicated 1:1 mentorship to support your professional development</li> <li>Clear, measurable impact—your contributions will directly shape our ability to maintain a secure and compliant platform.</li> </ul> <p>And now, we're looking for a passionate manager to expand our remit even further and reshape how operations looks inside Stripe. Full ownership is the ultimate green flag for us, but here are some high-level expectations.</p> <h3>Responsibilities</h3> <ul> <li>Recruit, coach, and develop a team of exceptional engineers.</li> <li>Lead the development of our operations tooling, providing reliable, user-first surfaces that just feel natural.</li> <li>Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and user empathy.</li> <li>Drive your engineering team toward exceptional technical quality, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.</li> <li>Provide hands-on technical leadership to your engineering team across multiple areas, including architecture, design, code reviews, quality assurance, and incident management.</li> </ul> <h2>Who you are</h2> <p>We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.</p> <h3>Minimum requirements</h3> <ul> <li>8+ years of professional hands-on software development experience</li> <li>2+ years of experience leading software engineering teams</li> <li>Hands-on experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems</li> <li>A track record of managing and mentoring junior and senior engineers</li> <li>Customer obsession, ability to articulate and represent customer experience in various forums to drive the right outcome that benefits our customers</li> <li>A track record of attracting and hiring top talent and growing teams</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to define and drive complex initiatives and projects across multiple teams</li> <li>Proven success with cross-discipline and cross-team collaborations</li> </ul> <h3>Preferred qualifications</h3> <ul> <li>Experience building and operating highly scalable, data-intensive services</li> <li>Experience building and operating observability solutions, such as designing and building telemetry collections, data transport and storage solutions, and composable UI architectures</li> </ul> <p>We don't expect deep expertise in every dimension above, but we look for genuine interest in learning any of the less familiar areas.</p>
