The template

{{Company name}} is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team of {{Team size}} engineers. Your job is to multiply the team: grow the people, keep delivery predictable, and make sure the most important work is the work getting done. You will manage humans first and projects second β€” while staying technical enough to earn the team's trust.

What you'll do

  • Manage, coach, and grow engineers through regular one-on-ones, honest feedback, and deliberate career development.
  • Own delivery for your team: planning, prioritization with product, and realistic commitments you then keep.
  • Hire well β€” define roles, run structured interviews, and close candidates who raise the bar.
  • Guide technical decisions without hogging them: set direction, delegate ownership, and review the big calls.
  • Create the conditions for quality: sane processes, healthy code review culture, and time to pay down debt.
  • Handle underperformance early, directly, and fairly.
  • Communicate up and across β€” leadership hears risks from you before they become surprises.

What we're looking for

  • {{Years of experience}} years in software engineering, including {{Years managing}} managing engineers directly.
  • A track record of teams that shipped meaningful work and of engineers who grew under you.
  • Enough current technical depth to review designs, challenge estimates, and debug a discussion.
  • Experience running the full people cycle: hiring, onboarding, feedback, promotion, and exit.
  • Strong prioritization instincts β€” you say no clearly and explain why.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

  • Experience managing distributed or remote-first teams across time zones.
  • Background in {{Domain or stack}} similar to ours.
  • Experience scaling a team through rapid growth or reorganization.
  • Involvement in engineering-wide initiatives beyond your own team.

Compensation and benefits

  • {{Salary range}}
  • {{Benefits summary}}
  • {{Location / remote policy}}

How to apply

{{Application instructions}} Tell us about an engineer you helped grow into a bigger role, and about the hardest management call you have made.
