{{Company name}} is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate the services that power our product. You will own systems end to end — from API design through deployment and monitoring — and help raise the engineering bar across the team. This is a high-ownership role for someone who cares about reliability, performance, and clean service boundaries.

What you'll do

• Design and build backend services and APIs in {{Primary language / stack}} that stay reliable as usage grows
• Lead the technical design of medium-to-large projects, from written proposal through rollout
• Model data carefully and tune schemas, indexes, and queries for correctness and performance
• Improve observability — logging, metrics, tracing, alerting — and lead blameless incident reviews
• Review code and technical designs, and mentor mid-level engineers on the team
• Partner with product and frontend engineers to scope work and sequence delivery
• Strengthen security across authentication, authorization, and data handling
• Automate away operational toil with better tooling, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems
• Depth in at least one modern backend language and its ecosystem ({{Primary language / stack}})
• Strong API design skills — REST or GraphQL — including versioning and backward compatibility
• Solid relational-database experience: schema design, indexing, and query optimization
• Experience running services in a cloud environment with containers and CI/CD pipelines
• A track record of leading multi-engineer projects to completion
• Clear written communication that works for a distributed, async-first team

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, or stream processing
• Performance and scalability work on high-traffic systems
• Contributions to open source or public technical writing
